“Joy is not a distant goal; it’s a way of living,” Kaminski said. “Embrace life’s moments, stay present, and prioritize what truly matters—because joy is found in the simple act of living authentically.”

No matter what stressors come your way, these strategies will help you enjoy the festive moments.

Embrace the Good and the Not-So-Good: “The first step toward joy is accepting life as it comes—the good times and the challenges alike,” Kaminski said. As you dive into holiday preparations, acknowledge and embrace both the delightful moments and the inevitable stresses.

Free Your Mind from Negative Thoughts: Imagine negative thoughts as passing clouds. Don’t let them linger; instead, let them float away. During the holiday hustle, if stressful thoughts arise about perfection or meeting expectations, practice letting them go, like leaves in the wind, Kaminski said.

Stay Present in the Moment (Mindfulness): “Amidst the holiday chaos, anchor yourself in the present. Whether it’s enjoying the smell of a festive meal or cherishing laughter with loved ones, mindfulness helps you fully engage in the joy of each moment,” Kaminski said.

Identify What Truly Matters: What brings genuine joy to your life? Clarify your values by considering what traditions and connections hold deep significance for you. This holiday season, prioritize these activities to cultivate a sense of fulfillment that lasts beyond the festivities.

Take Intentional Steps Toward Joy: “Commit to actions that resonate with your values. If connection is vital, plan activities that foster meaningful interactions,” Kaminski said. Whether it’s volunteering, creating handmade gifts, or simply spending quality time, intentional actions lead to lasting joy.
